As the name says, corn village is one of the most unique villages located in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. Every single house in the village is covered with the garlands and bunches of golden corn making it an unbelievably pretty sight. The traditional architecture of the houses adds to the beauty and makes it a more authentic. Corn is the symbol of wealth in the village. Originally known as Sainji, the village is located at a distance of 10 km from Mussoorie.
Imagine yourself sitting in a wooden village house, offering breathtaking views and getting pampered by traditional food and hospitality. In the corn village, we will be hosted by a local family for lunch, who will be serving us a variety of traditional Jaunpuri dishes, especially cooked for us. This experience is going to overload our tummies with good food and our heart with warmth and love.
George Everest was Surveyor General of India when it was under British control. He is best known to have measured the highest peak of the world, Mount Everest, which was then known as Peak XV but renamed to the present name to honor Sir George Everest. George Everest House, overlooking the breathtaking Doon valley, used to be an observatory to examine the mountains demarcating the boundaries.
The breathtaking Kempty Falls are located at an altitude of 4500 feet splitting further into five cascades. From the origin of the falls to the final plunge, they cover a mesmerizing journey crossing terrace fields, forming crystal clear water pools and passing through lush green forests.
On this trip, we are going to do one of the most unexplored and unique treks of the region. We will hike up to Benong Tibba Top while crossing George Everest House on the way, followed by a breathtaking hike to the source of Kempty Falls. Did we tell you that it’s one of the spellbinding experiences to witness the origin of a waterfall? The trekking trail also takes us through beautiful meadows, jungles and the water pools.
Chaar Dukaan is a place in Landour in Sister Bazaar where four (translates to Chaar in Hindi) quaint cafes are located next to each other serving some scrumptious paranathas, Maggie, pakode, special bun omelettes, tea and shakes. The beauty of Chaar Dukaan is that it’s more than a century old and makes one of the coolest hangout places in Landour.
Ruskin Bond, the famous author, was born in India but moved to England after finishing his school in 1951 only to return to India again in 1963. He eventually found his home in the lap of the mountains in Landour in Ivy Cottage. Contrary to the expectations of general belief of being a British Bungalow, Ivy League is a quaint Tibetan home.
The word ‘Tibba’ translates to ‘hill’ or a ‘peak’ in English. Lal Tibba is one of the hills in Landour town that offers a breathtaking view of surrounding peaks, distant villages and temples. For the convenience of tourists, a café is constructed on Lal Tibba that has placed binoculars on its roof making it easier for visitors to identify and enjoy the relevant points of interest.
Landour Bakehouse is a 19th-century coffee shop and a bakery offering some of the best menu items in the town to satiate our taste buds. The menu features some of the delectable dishes from ‘The Landour Cookbook’ keeping the authentic Landour culinary tradition alive.
Kellog Memorial Church, built in 1903, has a beautiful English architecture built with grey stones and green windows from outside. It was also the home of the Landour Language School where British people were taught Hindi.
