The aroma of coffee in the air, the mesmerizing sunsets & sunrises, and the hairpin bends of the road gives a perfect balance of adrenaline rush and calmness.
An early morning walk through the vast coffee estate while hearing the cacophony of the hundreds of the birds and inhaling fresh air is the essence of a good morning in Yercaud. Else, one can just sit at Pagoda point and welcome the day with the most beautiful sunrise ever. Yercaud sightseeing is the friendly romance with nature where we get to see picturesque views, rolling hills, meadows, and a lot more which can only be discovered once we are in Yercaud.
Did you know that the name Yercaud is derived from the combination of two words where Yeri means Lake and Kaadu means forest, meaning Lake Forest, and this name is given because Yercaud has an abundance of trees that also happened to be near the forest?
Did you know that the night view of Salem is mesmerizing from Yercaud?
Yercaud is located at an altitude of almost 5000 feet above sea level, beautifully sitting on the Shevaroy Hills in the Eastern Ghats. In fact, Servarayan Temple (or Shevaroy Temple) is the highest point in Yercaud at an elevation of 5300 feet. Apart from boasting the verdant green coffee estates and pepper plantations, Yercaud is also home to oranges, jackfruits, guavas, and cardamoms. As a matter of fact, sandalwood, silver oaks and teak grow in abundance in Yercaud.
We are going to stay in a resort that unquestionably offers the best view in Yercaud. Beautifully perched over a mountain, the resort offers a picturesque view. In fact, on a misty day, the view from the resort gives an impression as if we are hanging out in the middle of the clouds with a little of share of adrenaline rush. Rightly sitting in the heart of nature, the entire place has a very calm yet adventurous feel. It’s a perfect place for mental rejuvenation by being closer to our inner thoughts and getting indulged with nature in the most luxurious way. We would have comfortable rooms fully equipped with all modern amenities to ourselves.
Have you ever visited a silk museum where you can feel the real mulberry leaves and make a real silkworm crawl on your hand? If not, then be ready to witness the same. At Silk World, we would be able to understand the entire process of how the finest and the most delicate silk threads are made from mulberry leaves by using the industrious but adorable little silkworms. We would also get to see and understand how silkworms are reared, fed on mulberry leaves and how cocoons are used for spinning the silk threads The end-to-end process of spinning silk and the entire life cycle of silkworms can be very well understood by visiting this place. There are also a lot of 3D paintings in the Silk World.
Lady’s seat is one of the most popular viewpoints in Yercaud and it actually offers a mesmerizing view of Salem town and the Mettur Dam on the Cauvery river. Lady’s seat has a viewing tower which is equipped with a telescope for those who are interested in the closer views.
The rock at the lady’s seat is naturally in the form of a seat with a backrest as well. During British Era, an English lady used to spend her evenings here while sipping tea and looking at the picturesque views from here, and hence this point got named as Lady’s Seat. As a matter of fact, this point also hosted numerous kitty parties for British women living in Yercaud.
Gent’s seat is located at a distance of 500 meters from Lady’s Seat and it also offers a stunning view of Salem city and other points of interest. Gent’s seat is one of the most preferred points to watch the sunset as the view from here is slightly wider as compared to Lady’s seat. We would visit both as it would be a pleasant experience.
It would be a sin to return from Yercaud without undergoing an early morning village walk, where we can experience the beauty and the peace of this quaint hill station at best. During this walk, we would have an opportunity to witness and understand the various plants and flowers such as avocado plants, orange plants, silver oak trees, orchids, chow-chow, ferns, castor oil plant, touch me not plant, various plants citrus plants, local herbs, and even coffee & pepper plantations. It would be a nice early morning romance with nature where we would be able to understand the rich diversity of local plants and can also decide to carry a few of them back home. This early morning Yercaud walk is going to be one of the most relaxing activities in the entire trip. We would also get to see a beautiful viewpoint, an asteroid boulder, and a lot of colorful birds and hear their music while doing the walk.
Yercaud Lake, also known as Emerald Lake or Big Lake, is indeed one of the most striking attractions of Yercaud. Did you know that is the only naturally formed lake across all the stations in Tamil Nadu? The gardens, the lush green mountains, and the trees surrounding the banks of the lake, and their reflection in the water give the entire landscape a postcard look. It’s a good place to spend some leisure time and also to get involved in a peaceful boat ride. The options of motorboats, paddleboats, and rowboats are available.
Servarayan temple (popularly known as Shevaory Temple) is actually the highest place in Yercaud with an altitude of almost 5300 feet. It’s a beautiful cave temple dedicated to Lord Servarayan who is worshipped by the tribal people of the region. This cave temple is believed to be more than 2000 years old and has a very fascinating history attached to it. It is said that the cave is 480 km long, and it extends until the Kaveri river in Karnataka.
The part of Shevaroy hills which is near the temple, offers picturesque views of Yercaud town and Nagalur. We can witness the magnificent green meadows, tall trees, multiple viewpoints, be close to nature and embrace the pleasant air caressing our cheeks.
Pagoda Point, also known as Pyramid Point, is another beautiful place in Yercaud that offers a stunning view of sunrise and sunset, along with the lovely views of Salem city, Kadambadi village, and the nearby cliffs. The place got its name from the four piles of stones which are arranged in a manner that it forms a pyramid. Now, a Rama Temple is housed inside that stone pyramid which is considered sacred for the local tribes. In fact, it is said that the local tribesmen only built that stone pyramid here. We might also get a chance to get indulged in balloon shooting and archery at Pagoda Point.
Manjakuttai is unquestionably one of the best viewpoints in Yercaud that offers a picturesque view of the surrounding valley, Mettur Dam, and other surrounding areas. Apart from Lady’s Seat, Gent’s Seat, and Pagoda Point, the Karadiyur viewpoint also offers stunning sunrises and sunsets. The watchtower at Manjakuttai viewpoint enables visitors to be able to get a panoramic view of the area. Did you know that in the past, a lot of sloth bears used to be present here, which became invisible with time?
What do you about the idea of visiting an adventure park in Yercaud and letting our inner child come out? We get to get involved in paintball, ziplining, and ATV Ride. Sounds like a fun activity with our women gang?
The Loop Road is the best scenic drive in Yercaud offering countless views, dense trees, valley views, glimpses of small villages and their life, etc. In nutshell, we would get to enjoy a scenic drive.
Does a perfumery visit sound appealing? We would visit a family who has been running one of the oldest perfume shops Yercaud for the last 80 years. First, we would visit their home where they would explain all the plants and herbs from their garden that they use in making the perfumes and oils, along with a demo of their oil-making process. It would be an interactive visit where we would be allowed to hand crush the various leaves from their garden and smell them, in order to be able to recognize them and learn about them. Post that, we would be given an option to buy any perfumes or self-care products from their collection.
