“The greatness of a culture can be found in its festivals”
Have you heard about Fagli festival celebrated in and around Kullu district? Fagli is celebrated to receive blessings from deota (God) for the upcoming harvest season. The local men participating in the festival wear floral headgear, a hand-knitted robe made from dry grass, and beautiful wooden masks which are passed from generation over generation. With this unique traditional attire, they dance and swirl to the beats of drums and trumpets amidst snow-capped majestic mountains in winters. The unlimited supply of drinks in that bone-chilling weather is indeed the source of energy for the dancers. After gyrating non-stop during the daytime, the night is the hour to visit all village homes to share blessings.
The fervor of Fagli festival is so huge that it’s celebrated over a period of 4 days. During celebrations, one can see the valley dotted with the spectators where women and children witness the celebrations from the balconies of their homes.
Fagli festival is not known to many people outside Kullu, and hence an offbeat Himalayan experience.

The temple of Shringa Rishi is considered very sacred by locals as they believe that the deity protects them. Shringa Rishi is one among the eighteen chief deities of Kullu. As per the epic of Ramayana, Lord Rama and his brothers were born after a huge yajna was performed by Shringa Rishi.
Great Tower of Kothi (or Chehni Kothi), almost 45 meters tall, is the tallest standing structures in the western Himalayas. It was built in the 17th century and have survived even the powerful earthquakes like the 1905 Kangra one. Though, it lost its uppermost two storeys in that earthquake. Witnessing Great Tower of Kothi is also a great visual treat because its architecture has used indigenious Pahadi methods for construction. The trek to Chehni Kothi is an easy one and it starts from Shringa Rishi Temple.
